Non-intrusive vehicle classification and data collection
Sick, the sensor specialist, is attending Intertraffic to highlight its TIC102 traffic information collector, an overhead, non-intrusive system for very precise vehicle classification and acquisition of traffic data. Based on a 3D model of each vehicle, it derives traffic data such as vehicle speed, up to 28 vehicle classes, travel direction and distances between vehicles. The company says data quality stays very high even for lane changing vehicles and stop-and-go traffic.
Also being featured are two important safety innovations - the company’s dangerous goods plate identifier and hot spot detector. These systems make dangerous road sections, such as tunnels, safer. The Dangerous Goods Plate Identifier keeps the operators always informed about what kind and how many dangerous goods are on the road. The Hot Spot Detector sees trucks with overheated areas onboard in order to stop them before they enter a tunnel.
