Solar power work zone technology supplier Solar Technology
is displaying its latest Smart Zone ITS software in the exhibition hall.
Described as ‘an important component in work zone ITS’, Smart Zone gathers and analyses data from various sensors, and sends the resulting information to the relevant authority’s traffic management system. Cameras, radar (Doppler and/or side fire), traffic volume detectors and weather sensors can be used to gather the real-time data. Modems wirelessly transmit the data to servers which process and analyse it and then communicate instructions to motorists – either with or without human intervention. Messages can be triggered on portable changeable message signs to reduce traffic speeds, display travel times or suggest alternate routes.
Smart Zone requires no third party programming to establish parameters for message changes, enabling operators to configure the software to trigger messages based on their desired parameters.
