Transportation Solutions (LTS), a world leader in moveable barrier technology, will showcase its flagship product, The Road Zipper System, at the ITS World Congress Copenhagen, focusing on solutions for construction and managed lanes applications.
For construction, the Road Zipper is used to accelerate the construction process, mitigate traffic congestion, and provide the safety of positive barrier protection between workers and motorists. Recently in Denmark, 22.5kms (14 miles) of moveable barrier were deployed in a road widening project to create a flexible contraflow lane. The barrier was used to mitigate traffic congestion resulting from construction. A report commissioned by the Danish Road Directorate showed that the Road Zipper saved average commuters 13 minutes through the road works. A total of 1.1 million hours were saved, resulting in user delay cost savings of US $45 million and a Benefit to Cost ratio of 28:1. The report also stated that many of the road users surveyed “found the solution brilliant.”
For managed lanes, the Road Zipper reconfigures the roadway in real time to add more lanes to the peak direction, while eliminating crossover head-on accidents. LTS is a proponent of ‘flexible highways’ where the design process is focused on providing the greatest amount of future flexibility. This includes design concepts that limit or eliminate centre structures, so that multiple lines of moveable barrier can quickly reconfigure the highway throughout the day in response to the real-time demands of peak traffic.
LTS will also highlight a full line of high-performance crash cushions, end terminals and specialty barriers. The company’s road safety products division includes two of the most trusted brands in safety - Barrier Systems and Snoline. Together, they have been manufacturing road safety products engineered to meet NCHRP 350, MASH, and EN-1317 safety standards since 1955.
