Transportation has been awarded a contract valued €132m (£116m) with Duisburger Verkehrsgesellschaft AG to supply 47 of its Flexity Trams to help reduce local road traffic and air pollution in Duisburg, Germany. The trams are also equipped with obstacle detection assistance systems to increase passenger safety and will be delivered by mid-2019 with further orders until 2023.
Flexity will feature two safety cameras to replace rear mirrors as well as an additional picture-in-picture camera which aims to eliminate blind spots.
The three-car trams are 34 meters long, 2.3 meters wide and can carry up to 200 passengers. Two additional doors located at the end and one in the middle are said to provide enhanced accessibility.
