Bolt has launched a car-share service in Estonia with the aim of encouraging alternative transport options over private cars.

Bolt CEO Markus Villig says personal cars are responsible for traffic, environmental emissions, and taking up city space.

“For people to switch from ownership to on-demand transport, we need to offer a more convenient, affordable, and environmentally-sustainable option for every distance,” he continues.

“We are already doing this for short and medium-distance trips. Bolt Drive now covers the last missing use cases, whether it’s a trip to a shopping mall or a weekend getaway.”

The Bolt app can already be used for scooters, e-bikes and ride-hailing.

In a blog post, the company says its Bolt Drive charges a single fee covering hire, fuel, insurance and parking.

Users can choose from a range of vehicles, including compact, mid-size, electric, premium, SUV and vans and can park these vehicles anywhere within the designated areas shown in the app.

Bolt says it plans to bring Bolt Drive more cities around the world.
