Helping V2X hit the road
August 27, 2025

Getting V2X technologies out of the research lab and into real-life deployments: that’s the role of the Saxton Laboratory at the Turner Fairbank Highway Research Center in McLean, Virginia.

“We do research, demonstrations, proof of concepts. We make tools and do lots of software development,” said Robin Laqui (pictured), senior manager in the surface transportation section of Leidos, which operates the laboratory for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

“Our essential focus is on V2X and deployment. How are people going to actually get these things out on to the roads?

Quarterhill taps into potential of digital twins
August 27, 2025

There is more data available on ITS hardware assets than ever before. But much of it remains in silos that that are not easily combined to give a full picture of any problems that may arise in systems in, on, or above a road. Bringing that data together in a digital twin of the real-life system is a way of combining that information and giving agencies, consultants or contractors a fuller view of what is happening in ‘real life’.

Marben plans to launch tolling solution
August 27, 2025

Marben is set to launch a complete, automotive-grade tolling solution based upon the SAE J3217 standard. Part of the Marben V2X software suite, this end-to-end tolling solution supports a full set of V2X messages, including two critical components: the Toll Advertisement Message (TAM) and the Toll Usage Message (TUM).

TAMs are broadcast by roadside units to communicate tolling point details and applicable fees. TUMs are generated by the vehicle’s on-board unit (OBU) and contain the billing and usage data required for accurate, real-time toll collection.
