EtherWAN switch boosts security

August 26, 2025
ITS World Congress 2025

EtherWAN is showcasing its new secure ethernet switch at the ITS World Congress 2025, betting that city agencies are looking to improve cybersecurity of their transportation networks. Originally developed for the power industry, the new EtherWAN EP75 includes a Fortinet firewall built directly into the switch.

“Agencies have hundreds or thousands of connections across their ITS deployments, and it’s important that these connections are highly secure,” said Jim Toepper, senior director of global products and technology for the company.

Deployed in a data centre rack or in a roadside enclosure, the EtherWAN EP75 moves security out to the edge of the network in operational technology (OT) devices. A trial is planned for Chandler, Arizona.

Toepper will be speaking more about the need for improved cybersecurity in ITS deployments at a table-top event on Wednesday.
