Employees of the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) didn’t have to travel far for this year’s ITS World Congress, but they are having no problem highlighting how far the agency has come with its V2X infrastructure deployments.
The V2X deployment includes 2,300 radios deployed across the state and is widely touted as the largest deployment of connected infrastructure in the U.S. The sensors communicate with various state fleets – including ambulances, fire engines and public buses.
“Our goal is to show people that V2X is possible. These are not demos or pilots. This is real technology in the field, and it’s driving mature applications,” said Victoria Coulter, the agency’s V2X programme manager.
GDOT is showcasing other ITS deployments at its stand, including its Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and award-winning data management platform. The agency is also hosting several demonstrations around the convention centre, allowing attendees to ride along with traffic management engineers to experience the v2X deployment in action. Conference goers can also tour GDOT’s Transportation Management Centre, the nerve centre for state’s ITS deployments, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
