Kapsch TrafficCom is once again redefining the future of tolling in North America with the debut here of its next-generation V2X (vehicle-to-everything) tolling solution. Building on its pioneering work with the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority and a recent showcase at SunTrax, the company is now offering a market-ready system that blends cutting-edge connectivity with real-world practicality.
This new solution, based on the SAE J3217 standard, is designed to seamlessly integrate with existing tolling systems. It enables real-time toll notifications, precise rate calculations, and direct in-vehicle communication — transforming the driver experience while reducing operational costs for infrastructure owner-operators.
Kapsch’s next-generation solutions focus on a light infrastructure approach but maintain the same level of robustness expected from existing systems without requiring major construction or causing disruption. The system also supports broader safety and traffic management applications, ranging from emergency alerts to weather warnings
“We are complying with the latest industry standards to ensure that V2X tolling is safe for use by agencies across the US,” said Lauri Brady, VP of Emerging Technology at Kapsch TrafficCom and a member of the Board of Directors at the OmniAir Consortium, the leading industry association promoting certification and interoperability for ITS, tolling, and connected vehicles. “This technology will be the next step towards the evolution of tolling systems in the country.”
V2X tolling is featured at the Kapsch TrafficCom stand. The company says it is the only provider offering both RFID and V2X solutions and is powerfully positioned to lead the transition to connected mobility.
