Panasonic Automotive Systems America (PASA) is emphasising the benefits of its vSkipGen product, which aims to significantly cut the time and costs of creating the next generation of in-vehicle systems.

‘V’ stands for ‘virtual’ and vSkipGen allows software developers and testers to work on electronic versions of forthcoming systems.  “Usually, if you want to develop some software for a vehicle you have to give every developer and tester in the team a physical version of the system that is to be installed,” said Vladimir Beloborodov, senior software engineer and architect at PASA. Now, vSkipGen allows team members to work on the new system through a version in the cloud.

That gives instant cost savings from no longer having to mass-produce physical versions of the new system and also speeds the new product’s time to market. It also means that software teams can start work on the new system before their hardware counterparts.
