Siemens spies potential for APE card

August 27, 2025
Mark Rogers of Siemens Digital Industries

Siemens Digital Industries is seeing new opportunities for its Application Processing Engine (APE) Card as more third-party organisations certify the device.

Users can place their software on the card and install it in a switch on the network.

The card takes in information from assets, detects any anomalies and will always be in concert with the host system’s central cybersecurity platform. Siemens likens the card to having a computer in the network’s data stream.

For example, the card can be used to handle deep packet inspection, to determine whether there is anything suspicious buried within them.

Customers can purchase the card without an operating system on it and it is then up to the client to decide what they want to load on to it.

The APE Card has been on the market for a couple of years now, but Siemens has sought partnerships with leading cybersecurity companies to have it certified for use.
