As always at Intertraffic, Siemens has a strong presence and a diverse range of systems and products, but this year it is being presented by the Mobility and Logistics Division of the new Siemens Infrastructure & Cities Sector.
Its CEO, Sami Atiya succinctly states the aims of the Division: "Our goal is to make urban mobility substantially more efficient and, above all, more environmentally sustainable by monitoring and controlling networked traffic flows," says Atiya, acknowledging that growing traffic flows are causing great difficulties, especially in conurbations.
As the company points out, intelligent traffic information and management systems help to reduce traffic jams, accidents and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 20 per cent. Control technology and telematic solutions from Siemens can ensure optimal utilisation of existing traffic networks. Snarl-ups are minimised, unnecessary energy consumption is avoided, and CO2 emissions are reduced.
The company is using the slogan "Siemens Traffic Solutions – easy to use," at Intertraffic to underline its ethos and this is reflected in the range of systems and products on show.
For instance, Sitraffic Concert, Sitraffic Scala and Sitraffic Guide, formerly separate fields of traffic management, traffic control and parking guidance, can now be combined on a single, central, modular platform. This enables tailor-made system solutions to be created on the construction-kit principle to match each urban scenario.
Meanwhile, with Sitraffic Watch mobile, a special iPhone and iPad app for road traffic management provides direct online access to the central computer, so traffic managers in field service can call up and visualise important data anywhere and anytime.
Other systems being highlighted include Sitraffic Dynafee, an innovative dynamic toll solution, direct travel time measurement, traffic data analysis, and Application Service Providing (ASP) that provides virtual control, and real savings: traffic management based on a constantly available, failsafe IT platform.
