Traffic video detection specialist Traficon has announced the acquisition of Sumit srl Ltd, a UK-based provider of products and services to the traffic control and monitoring industry, with a strong focus on automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology. The acquisition fits in Traficon’s strategy of integrating more intelligent detection functionalities into one monitoring solution.

“The number of cameras and monitoring solutions in today’s traffic environments is growing every day,” comments Traficon CEO Lode Caenepeel. “System integrators and end users are therefore looking into integrating various technologies with various applications in a single solution. The acquisition of Sumit UMIT srl fits in Traficon’s long-term strategy of integrating more intelligent functionalities into one monitoring solution. With the ANPR camera technology from Sumit srl, Traficon will be able to combine ANPR with other video detection applications.”

Sumit srl (www.sumitsrl-uk.com) is based in Stafford, UK, and was started in 2009 to provide a range of products and services to the traffic control and monitoring industry, initially focusing on the development of ANPR cameras. The company’s expertise lies pre-eminently in the field of flexible and robust ANPR cameras that are easy to maintain and install. One of the advantages of Sumit’s technology over other providers is the ability to easily integrate third party applications and support various OCR libraries to obtain the best results for various regions.
