Seamless: Jean-Charles Caulier of Conduent
is displaying its Seamless contactless mobile payment solution at the show. The company describes Seamless as the next-generation approach to ticketless public transit, which requires a user merely to tap their Near Field Communication (NFC) or Bluetooth-enabled smartphone on a Conduent Seamless NFC tag.
The tag creates and stories an encrypted transaction and relays it to the smartphone, offering the same security guarantee as conventional contactless ticketing, says the company. It eliminates the risk of customers losing their tickets or cards.
Conduent says that the system complements existing ticketing systems and enables public transit agencies
to modernise their equipment without completely overhauling their system. It lists as benefits the fact that the system is designed independently of SIM cards and is compatible with all mobile phone operators. Additionally, it says, it removes the barrier of people using an unfamiliar transport system and its ticketing practices.
Billing is processed automatically at the end of each month, having calculated the price of all the journeys undertaken over that period.
