Verification, assessment and analytics specialists Spirent Communications are to partner with ‘Vehicle-to-Everything’ (V2X) company Commsignia to provide a testing platform for the certification of V2X devices.
Both companies are members of the OmniAir Consortium, which is responsible for certifying V2X devices and their communications software, to ensure that they are interoperable internationally and comply with current regulations. The companies say that in the near future V2X communications will be used to assist motorists with warnings of incidents such as collisions or
roadworks and lane closures, to optimise traffic flow.
Ultimately, V2X will enable fully-autonomous vehicles to operate co-operatively, to avoid collisions. “V2X-enabled vehicles are already in mass production and major deployments are expected by 2019,” said Abhitesh Kastuar, Spirent’s general manager for automotive solutions.
“As V2X requires interoperability among the devices used for communication supplied by many radio and communication software stack suppliers, testing for standards compliance and interoperability among these devices is crucial.”
“Spirent was a natural choice for Commsignia to partner with, as both of our organisations strive to provide certified, validated solutions to meet the needs of our customers,” said Jozsef Kovacs, Commsignia’s CEO. “Spirent’s offering covers standard variants both in the US and Europe and will help ensure Commsignia compliance to the latest standards.”
