Fruanhofer ESK’s Quality of Service monitoring and prediction system continuously tracks not only vehicle-to-vehicle communication but essential environmental parameters.
Importantly, the system relies on machine learning algorithms to predict the quality of the communications network over the next few coming seconds or minutes. The system can react to make timely adjustments, says the Munich-based Fraunhofer Institute for Embedded Systems and Communication Technologies ESK. Close platooning of several semi-trailer trucks is one possible application. If the communications network deteriorates, another more secure network is automatically chosen. Or the driving interval between the vehicles is increased.
