Star Systems International (SSI) has launched a portable vehicle transponder reader with a read range of more than 12 metres.

SSI says Pyxis comes with an integrated 4dBi circular-polarized antenna, a long battery life, lighter weight and ergonomic design.

According to SSI, the handheld reader enables fast reading of vehicle transponders in any application.

Jet Lai, senior manager of R&D at SSI, says: “With its long-life battery and standby time, Pyxis is extremely useful in critical-duty missions. In addition, users can build their apps quickly and easily using Pyxis' powerful Software Development Kit (SDK).”

Pyxis is expected to be useful in applications like transponder commissioning and testing, mobile vehicle identification, mobile toll tag verification and electronic tolling.

The reader comes with a range of features such as a new octo-core processor, 64GB ROM, 4GB RAM, 2D Bar code scanner and a large 5.46” display.
