Moovit has entered an agreement to show users where micromobility firmBeryl‘s vehicles are available in five UK cities.

Moovit users can access Beryl’s offering in Norwich (bikes, e-bikes and e-scooters), Hereford (bikes), Isle of Wight (e-scooters), Watford (bikes and e-bikes) as well as in Bournemouth, Pool and Christchurch (bikes and e-scooters).

The firm says it will show its users in real time where a Beryl vehicle is available nearby, including how long it will take to walk there.

Beryl CEO Phil Ellis says: “Beryl’s partnership with Moovit will help empower people to find more affordable and sustainable journey options within their communities, creating transformative transport habits that improve air pollution and tackle climate change.”

Moovit insists the reliance on bikes and scooters to get around has “boomed” since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Moovit’s 2020 Global Public Transport Report found that on average, 35% of cyclists and scooter users in the UK prefer to connect their rides with public transport for more efficient first and last segments of a journey.

However, the company points out that many people still drive their private vehicles to connect with main transport hubs or drive directly to their destination.

The partners are therefore aiming to better connect people with micromobility services and take more cars off the road.

Luke Redfern, Moovit’s UK partnerships manager, says: “Offering more alternative forms of transport, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, that can easily get people to their destination is a critical component of any Mobility as a Service platform.”
