Ettifos reports that its compact on-board unit and aftermarket V2X device called V2X-AIR is now compliant with Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements.
V2X-AIR is designed to deliver secure and reliable C-V2X communication through the PC5 interface, supporting critical safety applications such as collision warnings, workzone alerts and intersection safety.
Ettifos is a global cellular Vehicle to Everything technology business based in South Korea.
The company said that compliance with the BABA requirements - under the US Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) - positions V2X-AIR as one of the first V2X devices to meet US federal domestic production standards.
Under BABA, all iron, steel, construction materials and manufactured products used in federally funded projects must be domestically produced.
Through localised manufacturing and assembly in Houston, Texas, V2X-AIR fully complies with these requirements - which means that its direct use in federally-funded transportation programmes and connected vehicle initiatives does not require waivers or exemptions.
US deployers can now buy the V2X-AIR for connected mobility pilots and large-scale cooperative safety deployments while benefiting from streamlined federal eligibility for procurement and grant programmes and strengthened domestic supply chain and economic resilience.
The device can be paired with a smartphone application for enhanced usability across a wide range of vehicle types, from passenger cars to commercial fleets, delivering critical information to drivers for improved road safety and traffic efficiency.
“Achieving full compliance with Build America, Buy America for the V2X-AIR represents more than regulatory readiness,” said Kangmin Lee, chief operating officer at Ettifos.
“It reaffirms Ettifos’ commitment to advancing US infrastructure development while delivering secure, high-quality V2X solutions to the US market."
"This milestone positions Ettifos as one of the few V2X companies with a fully BABA-compliant device, enabling us to better serve federal agencies, transportation authorities, and smart mobility integrators by removing procurement barriers and strengthening domestic supply chain resilience.”
Ettifos set up a US business in San Jose, California in 2024 and is now accelerating its national presence following a successful Series B funding round of $12 million earlier this year.
Founded in 2018, Ettifos is a 5G-focused V2X solutions provider, supplying OBUs (on-board units) and RSUs (road-side units) tailored to customers’ specific project and service requirements.
