Portable traffic signals offer extended running times on small-scale, short-term site works

SRL Traffic Systems has launched two versions of a portable traffic signal that offers extended running times on small-scale, short-term site works.

RadioLight Pro and its companion traffic signal RadioLight Pro:Eco incorporates an integrated solar lid. They are based on the company’s RadioLight signal designed to provide traffic management companies, highway authorities and contractors with a reliable, cost-effective solution.

The new product provides significant improvements on the original, including an extended battery life of up to around three weeks for RadioLight Pro, minimising exchange frequency and widening the range of projects for which it is suitable.

The longer running time is due to Mk3 low-energy-aspect lamps and the incorporation of SRL’s Solar Plus technology in RadioLight Pro:Eco.

Lighter weight posts and a streamlined axel combine to create highly portable signals that are easy to install and manoeuvre, said SRL. RadioLight Pro weighs just 84kg and RadioLight Pro:Eco 94kg.

In addition to requiring fewer battery exchanges than its predecessor, limiting carbon emissions and site visits, they incorporate a remanufactured core, featuring boxes and heads previously used in the original RadioLight fleet.

SRL said the products reflect the company’s “commitment to a circular business model” by helping to minimise waste. Added stability is provided by a redesigned foot and five bullet-locks promote the resilience of the galvanised steel units. An upgraded aerial facilitates improved, reliable radio connectivity.

SRL said it has also expanded its Remos portfolio, a scalable remotely operated mobile signal and designed to promote road worker safety. It already includes Remos Max and Remos Flex service solutions for medium- to long- and shorter-term schemes respectively.

Now, SolarLight Remos, a remotely-operated version of the company’s well-established temporary SolarLight signal, is available. It features dual-aspect solar panels to minimise battery exchanges on longer-term works and incorporates a distinctive yellow box.

SRL’s business development director Ben Parsons said the new products harness industry-leading mobile ITS technology to help customers tackle two of the biggest issues in the traffic management industry today, sustainability and road worker safety: “These priorities will continue to sit at the heart of our product development strategy."

SRL is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of portable and temporary ITS equipment and integrated solutions.

Its portfolio comprises VMS, CCTV, traffic and pedestrian signals, work-zone protection barriers and ANPR, along with integrated solutions such as the Urban64 traffic signal system and Haul Route Plus crossing solution.
