Acusensus enforcement solution targets fatal driving errors

Australia-headquartered Acusensus is here with a world-first initiative that addresses some of the common causes behind road traffic crashes. These are known as the fatal five behaviours – speeding, impaired driving (drugs and/or alcohol), failure to wear a seatbelt, driver fatigue and distraction – leading to 1.19 million deaths annually across the globe. It’s proven that enforcement greatly contributes to the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries caused by road crashes.

To address this problem, Acusensus has developed its Multi-function enforcement solution that addresses three of the fatal five behaviours. The artificial intelligence system can detect mobile point-to-point (average) speed, spot speed, seatbelt non-compliance and distracted driving. This system has been trialled in Western Australia, gathering significant informative data.

Research and development work is in progress to add impaired and fatigued driving detection to Multi-function, which will allow the system to eventually address all fatal five contributors to road trauma.

This ambitious project will allow Multi-function to address every significant behavioural cause behind road safety incidents. A tool that addresses the fatal five will be economically beneficial as it will be a single asset that detects multiple dangerous driver behaviours simultaneously. This can produce real change and save lives that should not end prematurely across the road network.

Don’t miss the Acusensus presentation “Multi-function enforcement solution – one asset addressing distracted driving, seatbelt non-compliance, point-to-point speed and spot speed” at 1pm today in Theatre 1 for further insights into this groundbreaking initiative.
