The event in Mexico City gives potential access to a national market of 130 million people, and 60 million cars – and a regional South American market of half a billion people.

“The strength of Mexico’s automotive industry translates to opportunities for the mobility sector,” says Desireé Colomé of the Embassy of Mexico in the Netherlands. “Its strategic location and connectivity serve as a bridge between North America and the rest of the world. Mexico is a manufacturing powerhouse, the seventh largest automotive producer in the world.”

There is another reason why intelligent transportation companies will be welcome, says Arturo Cervantes of the National Alliance for Road Safety in Mexico (Anasevi): the country has a real problem with road safety. “We have 140 deaths per million people,” Cervantes revealed. “That’s ten-fold the rates of the Netherlands. It’s a crisis of mobility.” One bright spot is that most countries in the region are now pushing ahead with regulatory changes which should improve road safety, he added.
