Complementing the software, Adaptive Recognition also designs and develops associated hardware, in the form of ANPR cameras and other devices tailored for access control, traffic monitoring, industrial code reading, and law enforcement applications.

This, says the company, allows its solution provider clients to source software and hardware components for their projects from a single, trusted vendor.

Recent improvements and new features for Carmen, which has been in service for 33 years, include video SDK. This allows images to be used directly with a video stream, rather than the still images used previously.

Operating Carmen in SaaS mode means that operators can use the system for a monthly fee, dependng on usage.

Increasing the product’s versatility, Carmen can now be used to convert an Android cellphone into an ANPR device. Having captured video on the phone, the image can be sent to the cloud, including not only the licence plate number but the make, model, colour and category of the vehicle captured.
