Clearview Intelligence targets traffic safety solutions

While celebrating its 50th anniversary, Clearview Intelligence is offering two new solar studs that can help boost traffic safety, as well as a novel CCTV-based traffic counter system. One of the new solar studs is designed for use on roads and can be installed easily in a standard mounting in place of the existing retroreflective stud. Peter Cattell, head of technical sales at Clearview, said: “They’re fully charged after four hours and remain lit for 200 hours.”

He explained that this extended illumination time is sufficient to provide lighting even if the studs have been covered in snow or road dirt or if weather conditions have been poor, for example. The units are said to be durable and have sealed components that ensure long working life even in poor conditions, while providing visibility over around ten times the distance of that for conventional retroreflective studs.

Also new are lower cost solar studs for use in cycleways and pedestrian paths. A novel feature is that they radiate light out 360° horizontally but not upwards, minimising disturbance to insect life and therefore, ensuring bat habitats remain undisturbed.

Another key innovation is the AI technology that can blur faces filmed on traffic counting CCTV equipment. The package records the number of pedestrians, cyclists or vehicles passing a point for traffic data purposes. However, an option can blur the faces of people or vehicle registration plates if required by GDPR legislation.
