Invision shows the way with VOD system

Invision has automated the way transportation agencies and road operators count passengers in vehicles with its new Vehicle Occupancy Detection (VOD) system. According to the company, the solution is easy to deploy on roadsides or in the median with no on-site tuning, providing a fully automated, mobile solution with 99% accuracy that can be moved between sites as needed.

“We see our product as an enabler of new policies that will disrupt the transportation and tolling industries,” the company said in a statement. “Everyone agrees that we need to find better ways to address congestion, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve safety, but tools have been, to some extent, outdated in our opinion.”

The ability to automate vehicle occupancy detection enables dynamic tolling decisions based on occupant counts rather than vehicle-level statistics—creating new options for policy makers and road operators.

Invision’s VOD system follows the company’s vision to empower devices out in the field—such as remote cameras and other sensors—to use artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to interpret the world around them without relying on costly hardware or Cloud connections. And, because processing is done on site, agencies and road operators can ensure the privacy of vehicle occupants.
