Scottish Government's Road Safety Framework unveils interim safety targets to 2030

Transport Scotland has released provisional headline figures for road casualties reported to the police in Scotland in 2016, showing 191 people were killed in reported accidents in 2016 - 23 more than in 2015.

Siemens is delivering electric vehicle (EV) rapid charging networks across the UK, including networks consisting of almost forty QC45 multi-standard EV chargers to be supplied and installed in South Tyneside and Dorset early in 2015. The networks will be connected to Charge-Your-Car Back Office , and include three years maintenance support provided by Siemens. Funded by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), the network in South Tyneside will consist of twenty QC45 triple-outlet, rapid chargers.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has given its support to the HGV speed limit trial which commences on the A9 in Scotland on Tuesday 28 October. The pilot project on the A9 will raise the speed limit on the single carriageway sections between Perth and Inverness from 40 to 50mph for heavy goods vehicles which have a laden weight exceeding 7.5 tonnes. A new intelligent transport system (ITS) has been launched as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing in Fife, Scotland, to ease congestion on the M90. The motorway management system will create a dedicated bus lane as well as carriageway variable speed limits which will be used during periods of congestion to help smooth traffic flow, reduce congestion and help make journey times more reliable. A third round of funding for low-carbon buses has been announced by the Scottish government. A total of £3 million (US£4.7 million) will be available to bus operators under the Green Bus Fund 3 scheme. Keith Brown, Scottish transport minister, said the first two rounds helped nine operators introduce 74 new eco-friendly buses. Lothian Buses, which secured funds in an earlier round, said its new ADL Enviro 400H hybrids are 56.7% more fuel efficient than the old buses they replaced.
