Microsoft has signed a memorandum of understanding with digital twin platform Urban Strategy.

Aimed at smart cities and regions, the full service is offered in the Microsoft Azure cloud.

It allows various scenarios to be explored live in 3D "where currently solutions will take days for a single scenario".

The result of this is "better, faster, data-driven decisions that will significantly increase policy options, efficiency of public means spent in city infrastructure, and engagement with stakeholders, from city management to residents".

Applications for the technology range from smart mobility and air quality to liveability and infrastructure resilience.

In a LinkedIn post, Microsoft said: "Microsoft and Urban Strategy will expand this collaboration globally, supporting the creation of sustainable, livable, and resilient cities."

The agreement was inked at Smart City World Expo 2024 in Barcelona last week.
