Intelligent intersection solution improves mobility

Parsons’ Intelligent Intersections solution uses advanced analytics and algorithms to reduce congestion and improve mobility around cities. In addition to the dashboard, the Intelligent Intersections solution can help cities improve signal congestion through more effective signal timing. Retiming traffic signals can reduce congestion by as much as 40 per cent, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and improves productivity. However, retiming is traditionally a time-consuming, expensive, and labour-intensive manual process, which most cities only budget for approximately once every five years.

With no new hardware required, the Intelligent Intersections solution applies proprietary algorithms to existing timing plans and GPS traffic data, providing signal retiming recommendations every eight to 12 weeks. With these automated signal retiming recommendations, cities can better adjust to changing traffic conditions by retiming signals far more frequently – reframing the manual process to a seamless exercise that can be completed in minutes.
